Our roots for our kennel come from the Uwharrie National Forest in Albemarle, North Carolina. Currently we are located in the aptly named town of Jackson Springs which is outside of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Uwharrie Australian Shepherds is a small hobby kennel dedicated to breeding and enjoying the Australian Shepherd.
The motto of Uwharrie Aussies is "Pretty is a plus, but soundness is essential" and we take this very seriously. All of our dogs have health and genetic screening and we take pride in their wonderful temperaments as well. Uwharrie dogs thrive in active homes and enjoy all types of activities. We are currently a member of the AKC parent club, United States Australian Shepherd Association.
Owner Shirley Shaver (now Davis) has been showing and enjoying dogs for over 30 years and Australian Shepherds are her passion. It is important to her that all of her dogs have the ability to not only meet the breed standard, but also have the intelligence, athletic ability and personality to fit in a family.
Shirley is also a small business woman and professional dog groomer. Shirley's dogs excel in all sports which includes; herding, agility, rally, obedience and conformation. While competing with her dogs is important to prove ability, nothing makes her happier than to see other's enjoy her puppies. All puppies are raised in her home and well socialized.
